Blog Week 2A

I can't imagine a world without Narratives. You may not notice it or even think about it but our every day lives are impacted by some form of Narrative. You may listen to a song or read a story and it can instantly alter your mood or inspire you. In Narrative writing it is necessary to have Characters,a setting,a plot and a theme. Without these items the story is as incomplete as a cupcake with no frosting, pizza without cheese, cookies with no milk. All of the mentioned components link together and form the big picture. A story is based on characters.  Characters create the plot with their actions and intentions. The plot is also known as the highest point of the story and it is also influenced by the setting, where and when the story takes place. The theme or "moral of the story" is based on the perception of the audience.  The  better writer is at mastering these tools, the greater chance they have of reaching their audience.

Parents are great examples of great storytellers. As a child, before timeouts excisted my mom always seemed to know what story could convince me to do what I was told. The most memorable story was "La Llorona", this story was told to me after I insisted that I wasn't ready to go to bed, in fact I still felt it was early enough to continue playing outside. However, after this story I quickly changed my mind. La Llorona takes place usually near your house and it's the story of a woman who is angry at her husband because he no longer shows interest in her and is always gone from home only returning to see his children. After hearing a rumor that he plans to leave her for another woman she is filled with rage and a desire for vengance she drowns her two children in the river. She quickly realized what a big mistake she had done and tries to rescue them but it is too late and in her sadness she comits suicide. Her body is found the next day by the river and the first night she is burried the villagers hear a crying woman "Where are my children?" near the river. The people who claim to have seen her say that it was Maria looking for her children and she wears the white gown she was burried in. Parents warn their children not to go outside in the dark because "La Llorona" might mistake them for her children and snatch them up. After this story I no longer felt the need to go out and play, in fact I was perfectly content to go to sleep safe and sound. Recently I have seen several movies based on this story and I found it amusing when one of my friends made a comment on Face Book about how she still had nightmares of the story her mom had told her as a child of "La Llorona".
